Showerwall Compact Installation Guide 2026

Showerwall Compact Panels offer the look and feel of tiles without grout, making them a popular choice for modern bathrooms. However, correct installation is essential to achieve a watertight and long-lasting finish.

Before installing, panels must be acclimatised in the room for 48–72 hours and checked for any defects. Walls should be solid, level, and clean, whether you’re fixing onto plasterboard, tiles, or a suitable backing surface.

Showerwall Compact panels are typically fixed using a high-grab adhesive, with all joints sealed using Showerwall silicone to prevent water ingress. Each panel usually requires two tubes of adhesive and one tube of sealant for correct installation.

It’s important to leave a small expansion gap (around 3–4mm) at the top and bottom of the panels, which should then be fully sealed. This allows for natural movement and helps maintain a waterproof seal.

Whether you’re installing a two-sided or three-sided shower enclosure, following the official Showerwall Compact installation steps ensures a professional finish. Browse our full range of Showerwall Compact panels and accessories to get everything you need for your project.

Installing Showerwall Compact Over Tiles vs Plasterboard

One of the major advantages of Showerwall Compact panels is their slim 4mm thickness, making them an excellent option for renovating existing bathrooms without removing old tiles. Because the panels are so thin, they can often be installed directly over existing wall tiles without significantly affecting the adjustment range of your shower door, shower enclosure, or shower screen.

This can save considerable installation time and reduce disruption during a bathroom renovation project.

However, when installing Showerwall Compact panels directly onto plasterboard or other flat wall surfaces, it’s important to consider the finished wall thickness carefully. Due to the slim profile of the 4mm compact panels, the final wall depth may be thinner than standard wall panel systems. In some cases, this can affect the adjustment allowance of shower doors, side panels, or shower enclosures.

To overcome this, installers may need to add additional backing boards or packers behind the Showerwall Compact panels to build the wall thickness up to approximately 10mm or more, depending on the shower enclosure manufacturer’s adjustment tolerances.

Always check the adjustment range of your chosen shower enclosure before installation to ensure compatibility with the finished wall thickness.
