Fluted Glass Shower Screen The Latest Trend

Fluted glass shower screen and shower enclosures have become popular and on trend over recent months and for good reason. But what is fluted glass and what makes it popular?

What is Fluted Glass?

There are many associated names for this design of glass. There are a range of names including fluted / reeded / ribbed. Fluted glass is a type of glass that features a series of vertical or horizontal ridges running along its surface. This 3D pattern is on one side of the glass, leaving the other side flat and smooth side.  This type of glass is commonly used in a variety of applications, including home and door windows but recently found its way into bathroom design.

Because of its unique texture, fluted glass can add an element of visual interest to a space while also provide some privacy. For example, fluted glass windows can allow natural light to enter a room while still providing some privacy. This is especially useful in bathrooms or other areas where privacy is desired. Fluted glass doors can also add a decorative touch to the entrance of a home, while still allowing light to pass through.

Fluted shower screens are a fantastic addition to any bathroom and will help you to create a stunning interior that you will love. The reeded and fluted pattern on the glass panel will create a truly unique feature in any bathroom while also adding privacy to your showering space.

Pros and Cons of fluted Glass

Lets look a little further into fluted glass and look at the pros and cons.

Pros of fluted glass

Adds visual interest:

Fluted glass has a unique texture that can add an element of visual interest to a space. This can make a focal point in your bathroom and help to draw the eye to certain areas.

Provides privacy:

Because of its texture, fluted glass can provide some privacy while still allowing natural light to enter a space.

Durable:

Fluted glass is made from the same toughened safety glass as standard shower screen and is generally durable and can withstand a fair amount of wear and tear.

Cons of fluted glass

Can be difficult to clean:

Because of its texture, fluted glass can be more difficult to clean than smooth glass. This can make it more time-consuming to maintain and keep looking like new. Although there is a smooth side which is normally installed on the inside of the shower for easy cleaning, the exterior glass will need cleaning.

Harder to install

Due to the texture of pattern of the glass, it is slightly more difficult to seal to a shower tray or wetroom floor. When applying the silicone seal to the bottom of the glass extra time is required.

Limited design options:

While fluted glass can add an element of visual interest to a space, it may not be suitable for all design styles. For example, some people may find that it does not fit well with modern or minimalist design schemes.
