Wetwall Niche Installation Guide
View the official Wetwall bathroom niche installation guide online using our interactive flipbook. Wetwall recessed niches are a practical and stylish addition to any bathroom or shower enclosure, creating built-in storage without the need for external shelves. Designed to integrate seamlessly with Wetwall wall panels, these niches help achieve a clean, modern finish while maintaining a fully waterproof system.
The Wetwall niche installation guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing recessed niches into your wall structure. This includes preparing the wall, locating studs, cutting the substrate, and ensuring the niche fits correctly within the wall cavity. The guide also explains how to cut the panel opening accurately, apply colour-matched sealant, and secure the niche in place for a watertight finish.
Wetwall bathroom niches must be installed between wall studs and require careful measuring to ensure the cut-out is only slightly larger than the niche itself. A small expansion gap should also be allowed around panels during dry fitting. Once installed, the niche is sealed around the flange and left to cure for 24 hours before use, ensuring a durable and waterproof result.
At Rubberduck Bathrooms, we offer a range of Wetwall niches, panels, and installation accessories to help complete your bathroom project with a professional finish.
Wetwall Niche Installation FAQs
What is a Wetwall niche?
A Wetwall niche is a recessed storage shelf built into the wall, designed to be installed within Wetwall panel systems for showers and bathrooms.
Where should a Wetwall niche be installed?
Wetwall niches must be installed between wall studs within the wall structure. A common installation height is around 43 inches (approx. 1100mm) from the shower floor to the bottom of the niche.
What surfaces can a Wetwall niche be installed into?
Wetwall niches should be installed into suitable substrates such as cement board, greenboard (moisture-resistant plasterboard), concrete, or tiled walls.
How much bigger should the cut-out be than the niche?
The wall cut-out should be no more than approximately 1/4 inch (around 6mm) larger than the niche dimensions to ensure a proper fit.
How is the niche sealed?
A colour-matched Wetwall sealant should be applied to the back of the niche flange before installation. Once fitted, excess sealant should be smoothed around the edges to create a waterproof seal.
Do I need to dry fit the niche first?
Yes, dry fitting is recommended to ensure correct positioning and to allow for expansion gaps around panels before final installation.
How long does the sealant take to cure?
The guide recommends allowing around 24 hours for the sealant to fully cure before using the niche.
What tools are needed to install a Wetwall niche?
Typical tools include a level, drill, tape measure, circular saw or jigsaw with a fine-tooth blade, sealant gun, and safety equipment such as gloves and goggles.
Can the panel be cut for the niche opening?
Yes, the Wetwall panel can be cut using a router or jigsaw with a fine-tooth blade. Internal corners should have a slight radius and cut edges should be smoothed to avoid damage.
Do Wetwall niches need additional waterproofing?
When installed correctly using Wetwall sealant and following the guide, the niche will form part of a fully waterproof wall system.
