How to construct a wetroom

How to construct a wetroom

There are several ways to construct a wetroom, the most popular way is by using a preformed former wetroom tray, which are similar to a shower tray but designed to fit into the floor or onto joists to give a level floor. There are two main differences when it comes to a wetroom former, wet room trays that are designed to be used with a waterproof flooring and tray that are tilable. This difference is often just a change in the wetroom former tray waste.

Once you have chosen the type of flooring you wish to use and the former you wish to use, next comes the matter of making the floor and walls waterproof. There are two different ways of doing this, either by using a paint on tanking kit which you paint over your floor and wall surfaces or by using a waterproof backing board to cover the walls and floors before applying your chosen decorative covering tiles etc.

Below are two instructional videos showing how to make a wetroom using the two main kits explained above.

Other paint on kits are available including Everbuild Aquaseal tanking kits which can be used to take wetroom and showers prior to tiling.

Please note that tanking a bathroom is now manditory according to british building regulations when you are tiling in wet areas of bathrooms.
