Multipanel

At Rubberduck Bathrooms we have been supplying Multipanel boards for bathroom renovation for over 20 years. Over this time, we have been asked many questions, here are some of the recent frequently asked questions regarding the Multipanel construction change.

Whats is Multipanel Made From?

Multipanel is made from exterior grade MDF finished on the front with a decorative laminate which offers not only a high-quality finish but is also robust and water-resistant making it perfect for bathrooms and showers.

Isn’t Multipanel made of Marine Plywood?

No Multipanel is made from Exterior Grade MDF and not plywood. Multipanel was previously made from 7 ply moisture resistant plywood (not marine ply) but changed to Exterior Grade MDF in August 2022

Why Did Multipanel Stop Using Ply?

Multipanel starting using exterior grade instead of plywood due to sanctions placed on Russia due to the Ukrainian war. Most of the world sustainable birch wood using in 7 ply plywood is produced in Russia and due to sanctions the price of Burch Plywood has increased dramatically to a point where exterior grade MDF, which was previously a higher price, has become be best and better price option.

Im not a fan of MDF, wont it just blow in wet areas?

Exterior grade MDF is different to other MDFs, as the name suggests its made to withstand exterior conditions. It has also been tested to withstand extremes of weather for external use, further proving its durability. Exterior grade MDF is a high quality to standard MDF and higher quality than MR (moisture resistant) MDF. Exterior is the only grade of MDF that meets the requirements of class D4, durability category, of BS 4965, making it a suitable substrate for use in areas of frequent prolonged exposure to running water.

What are the Benefits of Exterior Grade MDF?

Exterior grade MDF is more durable and stronger then Plywood previously used and offers a consistent surface flatness allowing for improved manufacturing process. Exterior grade MDF is a highly versatile material which due to its high density is perfect for Multipanels hydrolocking system.
