Atlantis Wet Wall Installation Tips

Before beginning your installation, there are a few important points that are worth highlighting.

Allow the panels to acclimatise

Store the panels flat in a dry environment and allow them, together with the adhesive and sealant, to acclimatise at normal room temperature for at least 24 hours before installation.

Atlantis panels are double sided

One feature that many installers don't realise is that Atlantis Wet Wall boards are laminated on both sides. Both the front and rear of the panel have the same decorative laminate finish, helping to improve panel stability while protecting the waterproof core.

Important when fitting Tongue & Groove panels

When installing Tongue & Groove (T&G) Atlantis Wet Wall Panels, always make sure the face labelled "FACE" is installed facing into the room.

If the panel is installed the wrong way around, the Tongue & Groove joint will leave approximately a 3mm visible gap, preventing the seamless finish the profile has been designed to achieve.

This is one of the most common installation mistakes and is easily avoided by checking the labelled face before fitting.

Always seal every joint

Every square edge panel, trim and Tongue & Groove joint must be fully sealed using a suitable waterproof sealant. This is essential to maintain a watertight installation and preserve the manufacturer's warranty.

Preparing for Installation

Atlantis Wet Wall panels can be installed onto:

  • Plastered walls
  • Plasterboard
  • Concrete
  • Chipboard
  • Existing ceramic tiles
  • Timber battens

Before installation, make sure the wall is clean, dry, flat and structurally sound. If the wall is uneven, battens should be used to create a level surface. The shower tray should already be installed, level and fully sealed before fitting begins.

Cutting Atlantis Wet Wall Panels

When cutting Atlantis panels:

  • Always check the décor before cutting.
  • Wear suitable protective gloves.
  • Cut into the decorative face to minimise chipping.
  • Use a fine-toothed saw.
  • Leave a 3mm expansion gap around all pipework and shower valve cut-outs.

After installation, all cut-outs must be sealed using waterproof sealant.

Installation Overview

The manufacturer recommends:

  • Starting in an internal corner.
  • Installing trims before fitting panels.
  • Applying adhesive in vertical wave patterns.
  • Using 3mm spacers above the shower tray.
  • Filling the bottom expansion gap with sealant.
  • Allowing the installation to cure for 24 hours before using the shower.
  • Caring for Atlantis Wet Wall Panels

Atlantis panels require very little maintenance.

To keep them looking their best:

  • Clean with a soft damp cloth.
  • Use only mild spray detergents.
  • Never use abrasive cleaners or bleach.
  • Replace silicone sealant periodically to prevent water ingress.

Maintaining the sealant is an important part of protecting both the panels and the manufacturer's warranty.
